OUR ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
Stewardship is one of our core values. And for us, this means taking care of our business, each other, and the world around us. Every day, we explore ways to reduce our environmental impact, so that current and future generations can thrive. And so we can leave our business and our planet in a better state than we found them. Our ambitious ACT2 program addresses sustainability under four core themes.
CLIMATE ACTION
Our production location in Sliedrecht is among the most sustainable buildings in the Netherlands. It utilizes heat pumps, exclusively LED lighting, and 2,268 solar panels on the roof that generate more renewable energy than we need ourselves. We use Dutch wind energy as a backup when needed. We offset any remaining scope 1 and 2 emissions by investing in nature conservation projects, especially those that help preserve biodiversity and support local communities.
PEOPLE & CULTURE
Good business practices enable business sustainability. Our culture is based on four core values: stewardship, innovation, reliability, and cooperation. We work continuously to ensure our employees experience appreciation and commitment, a pleasant and safe working environment, development and growth, health and vitality, and work/life balance. Regular employee surveys and an active Works Council hold us accountable to our colleagues.
CIRCULAR INNOVATION
Every de Jong DUKE machine is built to last a long time and is highly energy efficient. Our modular designs enable easy part replacement, repair, and refurbishment. We use recycled materials whenever possible. We even provide eco-friendly, biodegradable cleaning tablets for all our machines. Our comprehensive material passports make the materials in each machine – and which ones are recycled or recyclable – transparent for all.
SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT
Our coffee and espresso machine are manufactured using hundreds of parts. To ensure a long lifespan for those parts, we source and manufacture components which meet our strict quality requirements, national and international laws, regulations, and standards. Every year, we review our key suppliers to ensure continuous improvement. We expect our suppliers to apply the principles of a circular economy and uphold fair work practices.
